About

I'm Brian Makarewicz, an Oracle ERP developer and solution architect based in Philadelphia, PA. For more than twenty years I've designed and built the integrations, data migrations, custom applications, and analytics that keep enterprise Oracle systems running. I've stayed hands-on with the code for most of that time, as technical lead on more than 40 multi-year implementation engagements for Fortune 500 companies, mid-market businesses, and government clients at the federal, state, and local level.

I've also spent much of my career building and leading teams, both onshore and offshore. Growing a group, coordinating people across time zones, and delivering to a deadline is its own craft, and the part I find most rewarding is helping the people on those teams grow. I put real time into mentoring developers and helping them shape their careers, because a strong team outlasts any single project.

My work spans the full Oracle Cloud stack, including Oracle Integration Cloud, APEX, Visual Builder, BI Publisher, OTBI, Fusion Data Intelligence, PL/SQL, and OCI infrastructure, along with a deep EBS background in CEMLI development going back to R12 and 11i. I tend to enjoy the parts of the job other people avoid, like a conversion that has to reconcile to the penny or an integration that needs to fail gracefully when something upstream breaks.

More recently I've been working in the AI space. I built a production retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) application on Oracle AI Vector Search and built governed workflow agents in Oracle Fusion AI Agent Studio. My certifications include Oracle Fusion AI Agent Studio Foundations Associate, Oracle AI Vector Search Certified Professional, Oracle APEX Cloud Certified Professional, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Certified Architect, and AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate. A lot of what I'm building now, including the tools and writing on this site, combines Oracle Fusion with practical, hands-on AI.

Beyond client delivery, I care about thought leadership and building products. Years ago I designed and built Insight Accelerators, a real-time business intelligence bolt-on for Oracle E-Business Suite, and more recently Fusion Query, a tool that lets people run ad-hoc queries against Oracle Fusion in plain SQL. I've presented at Ascend, Collaborate, and OATUG on topics ranging from file-based data loaders to extending Fusion with Visual Builder Studio.
